Not all matcha is equal. The growing conditions, harvesting and processing of the leaves to powder all effect the colour and flavour of the tea. Lower grades of matcha are a dull green whereas high quality matcha is a bright vivid green.

Matcha which is low grade has a bitter taste and does not dissolve well in water. Excellent quality matcha has a smooth and mellow flavour and does not need to be over-whisked to dissolve. Teas range from culinary all the way up to ceremonial. Culinary matcha is low grade and used only for cooking. Ceremonial matcha is the highest quality and used for drinking.

At Matcha Pure Tea we only import high grade matcha tea. Our Everyday Matcha is excellent quality and can be enjoyed as a drinking tea or added to recipes. Our Ceremonial Matcha is the highest quality and used for drinking.

Place 1/2 teaspoon of matcha (1-2g) into cup. Pour in 70ml (2.46fl oz) of hot water. The water temperature should be below boiling point (80C / 176F). Whisk with a bamboo chasen or fork and enjoy!

Place 1/2 teaspoon of matcha into a mug. Add a little warm water and stir to form a smooth paste. Add 1-2tsp of honey or agave (optional). Warm milk or almond milk in saucepan. Pour into mug and enjoy!

Matcha contains a powerful antioxidant (catechin) called EGCGs. These help to boost your metabolism and burn up to 25% more calories during exercise.

A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition claims matcha green tea produces an increase in energy expenditure (a measure of metabolism) combined with a significant effect of fat oxidation. It also found that consuming the tea can increase thermogenesis (the body’s rate of burning calories) from a normal 8-10% of daily energy expenditure to between 35-43% of daily energy expenditure.
